Using SmartControl with a Dynamic Energy Contract
How to get the most out of SmartControl and hourly electricity pricing
Getting the most out of SmartControl
SmartControl works best when paired with a dynamic (hourly) electricity contract. Here's how to set it up and maximise your savings.
What is a dynamic electricity contract?
A dynamic contract charges you based on the actual market price of electricity each hour, rather than a fixed rate. Prices are typically published the evening before for the following day. During cheap hours (often midday or overnight), electricity can cost a fraction of peak hour prices.
How to activate SmartControl
- Open the Qvantum app and go to Settings → SmartControl.
- Toggle SmartControl On.
- Choose your mode: Eco, Balanced, or Comfort.
- Confirm your electricity market area (the app uses this to fetch the correct price data).
Choosing the right mode
- Eco — Maximises savings, accepts slightly more temperature variation. Best if you're home all day and comfortable with small fluctuations.
- Balanced — Recommended for most households. Good savings with stable comfort.
- Comfort — Prioritises temperature stability. Still saves money but less aggressively.
What to expect
After activating SmartControl, it takes 1–3 days for the algorithm to learn your home's thermal behaviour. Savings are most noticeable on days with high price variation — typically 20–40% variation between the cheapest and most expensive hours.
Is SmartControl available in my country?
SmartControl is currently available in Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany, and the UK. Price data is fetched from the Nord Pool and EPEX SPOT markets depending on your location.
