Error Code H-44: What It Means and How to Resolve It

Understanding and clearing the H-44 high pressure protection alarm

What is error code H-44?

H-44 is a High Pressure Protection alarm. It means the refrigerant pressure inside the heat pump has exceeded safe operating limits and the compressor has shut down to protect the system.

Common causes

  • Blocked or dirty filters reducing airflow
  • Refrigerant circuit issue (e.g. shortage of gas)
  • High outdoor temperatures combined with high heating demand
  • Mixing valve or actuator malfunction
  • System configuration issue after installation

How to reset the alarm

  1. Go to the display/control panel on your heat pump.
  2. Navigate to Alarms or Fault log.
  3. Select the H-44 alarm and choose Reset.
  4. The unit should restart automatically.

Note: If the alarm returns within a short time, do not continue resetting it. This indicates an underlying issue that requires a service visit.
